Job Description

Less than 1 week, Hours to be determined Only freelancers located in the United States may apply. We have an established WordPress/WooCommerce ecommerce website that has organically ranked on the 1st page of Google for our primary search terms since the early 2000s. We've experienced ranking volatility over the past year, with a further significant decline occurring recently. Our website hosting was migrated from Bluehost to WP Engine 2 weeks ago , and DNS was moved to Cloudflare shortly after that. Shortly after the hosting migration, our organic rankings suddenly returned to the first page of Google for a few days. Then, Google Search Console started reporting several new issues, coinciding with a sharp decline in our rankings that began that same day. We do not know whether these events are connected and want that investigated. Recent GSC issues include: -Page indexing and canonical URLs -Pages blocked by robots.txt -Breadcrumb structured data -Product Snippet structured data -Merchant Listing structured data -Unexpected activity/data reappearing in our HTTP property after several years of reporting little to no activity Our Product Snippets and Review Snippets have also fluctuated significantly over the last few weeks. We use ShopperApproved.com to collect product and seller/store reviews that get syndicated to Google. Since noticing this, our developer and Shopper Approved recently corrected issues involving how our review information was being presented to Google, and our Review Snippets have largely recovered. However, our Product Snippets have continued to fluctuate and have not returned to their previous levels. Additionally, our developer identified 21 pages where our Yoast SEO plugin appears to be telling Google that the HTTP URL is the preferred/canonical version, even though those HTTP URLs redirect to the current HTTPS pages. No changes have been made yet. We would like this reviewed as well to know if it is related to the product snippets, review snippets, and other recent GSC issues that are being reported. WHAT WE"RE LOOKING FOR: We are specifically looking for someone experienced in Technical SEO troubleshooting and ranking recovery to investigate this entire sequence of events, determine what is happening, and identify what needs to be corrected or what may have gotten lost or misconfigured through these recent events. Our primary concern is making sure Google is properly reading and understanding our website and that the SEO value and historical signals built over more than 20 years are being properly preserved. We are not looking for blogging, backlinks, keyword research, or a routine SEO audit. We need someone who can investigate what happened, identify what is actually contributing to the ranking decline, explain it to us in terms we understand, recommend a careful course of action, and demonstrate that they have successfully handled and improved similar situations before. REQUIREMENTS: -USA based and fluent English speaker. -Be available for phone calls when needed to discuss the investigation, findings, and recommended fixes. -Have experience with technical SEO troubleshooting and organic ranking recovery, particularly situations involving Google Search Console issues, indexing/canonical problems, migrations, structured data, or similar technical problems that caused unexplained ranking declines,. -Be able to provide examples of similar jobs in which you successfully identified issues and resolved them along with proof that your fixes led to measurable improvement in rankings/organic visibility/and clean GSC setup afterward. -Be able to clearly demonstrate and explain your experience to us in plain English. We are business owners, not SEO professionals. We need to be able to understand what you found, why you believe it is a problem, what you recommend changing, and why you believe that change is appropriate. -Be able to distinguish between what is actually causing a problem and what may simply be coincidental or an unrelated GSC warning. We are not looking for someone to blindly “fix” every warning that appears in Search Console.

Hi there, I read through the timeline. Hosting migration, DNS move, temporary ranking recovery, then a sharp drop right when Search Console started throwing errors. That sequence alone tells me something structural broke during or right after the move, not gradually. You've been ranking first page since the early 2000s. That kind of equity doesn't evaporate on its own. Something changed in how Google is reading your site, likely around canonicals, redirects, or structured data after the migration. I need to be direct with you: I work primarily in WordPress development and LMS builds, not technical SEO recovery. I've handled SEO implementations, on-page optimization, and schema setup as part of larger platform projects, but diagnosing volatility tied to hosting migrations, canonical conflicts across HTTP/HTTPS properties, and deep Search Console troubleshooting is specialist work that sits outside my core focus. You need someone who audits technical SEO issues daily, not someone who implements SEO as one piece of a development stack. The wrong hire here costs you more time while your rankings stay down. That said, if you end up needing WordPress-side support after the SEO specialist identifies plugin conflicts, canonical misconfigurations in Yoast, or structural issues that require developer intervention to fix properly, I'm available for that collaboration. I've worked with Yoast extensively, handled WooCommerce performance and schema cleanup, and can execute technical fixes quickly once the diagnosis is clear. But for the investigation and recovery strategy you're describing, you should prioritize someone whose entire practice is technical SEO forensics, not platform development. I respect the urgency too much to position myself as the right lead on this when I'm not. If the scope shifts or you need a developer once the SEO work surfaces specific fixes, feel free to reach back out. Trust, Tai
